Parent / Guardian Code of Conduct
As a Parent/Guardian of an athlete/participant in any activity organised by Gymnastics Australia, a member association, or an affiliated club, it is essential that you adhere to the following conduct requirements during any activity or event:
-
Respect: Uphold the rights, dignity, and worth of every individual involved. Treat others with respect and honour their uniqueness, regardless of their background or identity.
-
Focus on Enjoyment: Remember that your child engages in sports for their personal enjoyment, not to fulfil your own aspirations. Prioritise their efforts and personal growth over a sole focus on winning or losing
-
Supportive Approach: Never ridicule or shout at your child or other children for making mistakes or experiencing setbacks. Encourage them with kindness and understanding, fostering a positive learning environment.
-
Appreciation for Skill: Show appreciation for good performance and skillful plays by all athletes, including those from opposing teams. Acknowledge and respect their abilities and achievements.
-
Individual Responsibility: Demonstrate a high level of individual responsibility when interacting with individuals under 18 years of age. Understand that your words and actions set an example for others to follow.
-
Respect Officials: Respect the decisions made by officials and encourage children to do the same. Refrain from physically or verbally abusing or harassing anyone associated with the sport, including athletes, coaches, judges, and administrators.
-
Inclusivity: Respect the rights, dignity, and worth of every young person, irrespective of their gender, ability, cultural background, or religion. Foster an inclusive and accepting environment for all participants.
-
Positive Role Model: Be a positive role model for your child and others. Display good sportsmanship, integrity, and ethical behaviour in all aspects of the sport.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child's classes or placement, please address them directly with the class teachers or owners. Avoid discussing these matters with other parents to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy boundaries.
By adhering to these guidelines, you contribute to creating a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment for all involved in the sport. Together, we can promote positive experiences and growth for young athletes.
